Tina Tombs Golf | Crafting a Timeless Swing
The Challenge: In 2004, LPGA Champion Tina Tombs embarked on a new journey—establishing a premier teaching academy at the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club. The greens buzzed with excitement as Tina’s academy teed off, but amidst her whirlwind success, she faced a major branding challenge. Tina Tombs Golf needed a cohesive identity. From custom prints to functional web design, the task was clear: elevate Tina’s legacy.
Our Approach: Our discovery session revealed that Tina Tombs Golf thrives on cutting-edge golf technology and wanted to showcase its achievements. Our primary audience? Retired golf aficionados, seasoned by the wisdom of 50+ years.
Execution:
Idea Generation: For the visual identity, modern sensibility meets nostalgia—a fusion inspired by vintage sports branding. The result is a brand that resonated with both experienced and new learners.
Logo Design: We designed a custom “T” logo and paired it with a modified Blenda Script. The logo captures the essence of the past while maintaining a modern feel.
Typography: We used Futura for bold titles headlines—and for body copy, we chose Adobe Caslon, since an older generation finds reading serif fonts easier than sans serifs, ensuring readability for all.
Design: We used circles and dots, rolling across compositions like golf balls for a classic look. Dark borders frame content, evoking the elegance of vintage clubs.
Web Design: The responsive site featured enlarged form fields and buttons, ensuring our target audience—older golfers—can navigate with ease.
Impact: The rebranding of Tina Tombs Golf has not only elevated the brand’s image but also made it more accessible and appealing to its target audience. The new visual identity, typography, and web design have successfully encapsulated the essence of Tina Tombs Golf, reflecting its commitment to providing a premier golfing experience.
Overcoming Obstacles: The main obstacle was to create a brand that resonated with both the seasoned pro and the fresh-faced learner. By taking inspiration from vintage sports branding and combining it with modern sensibility, we were able to overcome this challenge and create a brand that appeals to all golf enthusiasts.
